This abandoned railway line started out as the narrow gauge Holly River and Addison Railroad, and then the West Virginia Midland Railroad. A logging operation that harvested the rich woods in this region of West Virginia, it connected to the Baltimore and Ohio's Richwood Branch at Holly Junction (adjacent to Holly Creek), and ran to Webster Springs, WV, where it interchanged with the Western Maryland (formerly the Greenbriar, Cheat and Elk Railroad).
It is not known when the line was purchased by the Pennsylvania Railroad, who filed for abandonment for part of the line in 1937.
