The Tremont and Gulf Railroad (later called the Tremont and Gulf Railway) was born in July of 1902, and connected Tremont to the town of Winnfield to the south in the state of Louisiana. The line also included an extension into West Monroe from Chatham, and a branch line from Menefee to Rochelle. The T&G was purchased by Illinois Central on November 15, 1958.

The line was abandoned by Illinois Central Gulf Railroad on March 1, 1986.
