This abandoned railway dates back to the mid-1800s when it was installed from St. Francisville, LA, to Woodville, MS, as the West Feliciana Railroad. Eventually it was absorbed into the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad and then the Illinois Central by way of a wye in Slaughter, LA. The line from Slaughter is still in place to a paper mill just south of the abandoned timber bridge and road crossing near "Zee". There are few grade crossings on this line, especially on the abandoned parts. Up until about 1999 the rails were still in place. There are 2 good grade crossings where the former ROW is evident, just north of the Entergy power plant on Power Station Road.
There is a former IC caboose in St. Francisville sitting on the former line and now used as a park. The caboose is open for exploring. The depot in St. Francisville has been restored and is being used as an antique market. North of the depot there are good remains of the line and US Route 61 parallels the line for a good ways. The terminus of the line in Woodville can still be seen by a marker where it crossed US Route 61. The depot there is gone.
From Zee, the abandoned portion of the line ran through Riddle, Powel, St. Francisville, Baines, Wakefield, Laurel Hill, Turnbull, MS, Ashwood, MS, and then into Woodville, MS. US Route 61 follows some of the former right-of-way between Hardwood and Laurel Hill.
