This railroad line was built from Dallas to Kaufman by the Texas Trunk Railroad in 1881. Originally planned to span the 350 miles between Dallas the Gulf Coast (near Sabine), the line struggled financially for most of its existence. With no through traffic and very little bridge traffic, the line served mainly local interests, and suffered accordingly.
It was eventually sold to the Texas & New Orleans Railroad, who abandoned the line.
