This abandoned railway started out as the Fulton Chain Railroad in 1896, bridging passenger and freight traffic between Thendara (previously named Fulton Chain) on the Adirondack Branch of the New York Central and Hudson Railroad and ships of the Fulton Navigation Company at Old Forge. The company came under control of New York Central (who renamed it to Fulton Chain Railway) in 1902, who then operated it outright starting in 1917, becoming the Old Forge Branch of the NYC.
The line was up for abandonment in 1931, being consummated the following year.
