This 14.7-mile branch, built in 1947, served one of the Clinchfield Railroad's largest mines, Moss Mine No.1.

At one point, this branch line served 8 coal tipples along its length. Slowly, the mines closed down, leaving Moss Mine, which shuttered in 1989, after which this branch line was abandoned.
