This railway line was built by the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad (the Texas-based subsidiary of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway) in 1886. The line was relocated due to the impounding of the East Fork of Trinity River in order to form Lavon Lake in 1948, abandoning a short stretch of right-of-way, some of which is submerged beneath the lake.
The rest of the former AT&SF is still in use by the Dallas, Garland and Northeastern Railroad, a regional carrier.
