This railway line was originally built as the Florida, Midland and Georgia Railroad in the 1880s. Subsequently owned by the Georgia and Florida Railroad, it was later purchased by the Valdosta Southern Railroad in 1951 just before the G&F was to abandon it.

Running from Valdosta south to Madison, FL, the portion of the line between Madison and Clyattville, GA, was abandoned in 1972.
