About me

My name is Greg Harrison, and I am a programmer at a software development company in Roanoke, Texas. I own a house and an Infiniti G35 sedan. I have a girlfriend (who has a daughter whom I call "Lil' Missy"), I go to church, I play the piano (and various other musical instruments), and I enjoy reading about cars. I also like abandoned stuff.

Me

I've had an interest in trains for most of my life. When I was a kid and would be riding in the car with my parents, any time we would come up to some railroad tracks, I would expectantly look both ways at the crossing hoping to see a train. Unfortunately, I didn't grow up around a railroad track, so any time I did see a train, I was always excited. For some reason, anytime we crossed abandoned tracks, I would still look both ways expectantly, though I never knew what I was looking for.

Fast forward a couple of years. My grandma lives in Bonham, Texas, a small community close to the Red River and Oklahoma. It is also a station stop for the old Texas & Pacific on its line between Sherman and Paris. Presently, the line is seldom used by the Texas & Northeastern (TNER), and thus has an abandoned appearance to it. It is this track that piqued my interest in abandoned tracks and right-of-ways, and to cultivate this interest, I have decided to purchase the "abandonedrails.com" domain on the Internet. (I have also purchased the "abandonedrails.net" domain that points to this site.)

Earlier, I mentioned that I like abandoned stuff. While my passion for trains has heightened my interest in tracks and right-of-ways as far as abandonments are concerned, I am still interested in other things abandoned, such as automobile junk yards, old buildings, old highways (like Route 66, which I've followed across the Texas panhandle)...anything that is no longer used yet left in place as an inadvertent reminder of the past.

I hope you enjoy your visit to my Abanoned Rails website!
