Smithfield to Point Marion

Point of Interest

GOOGLE MAPS no longer available: With apologies, I am unable to continue showing Google Maps. Google has forced my hand by increasing their map usage fee from nothing/free to OVER $300 A MONTH for the Abandoned Rails website! This is an expense that I simply cannot afford. Rest assured I am looking at available open source alternatives, so maps should be back online soon!

Historic ICC Abandonment Filings

Docket Number: 10704 Date: 12/12/1934 Section: 1
Joint appl. of Baltimore and Ohio RR Co. and Baltimore and Ohio RR. Co. in Pennsylvania for certificate to abandon that part of the Hocking Extension of Grassy Run Branch, Pittsburgh Division, of the latter extending from Valuation Station 45 plus 56.4, west of Hocking Junction to Valuation Station 57 plus 06, a distance of 0.22 miles, all in Somerset County, Pennsylvania; and to abandon operation thereof.
Length: 0.22 miles Citation: 202 ICC 737

Wrong line. The Grassy Run Branch/Extension began just north of Hickman and went west past Coal Run to a bit east of St. Paul. The Hocking Extension split off at Coal Run and went north and northwest for about a mile. The former appears on current USGS topos and both are present in 1939.

The line you have here is the Fairmont, Morgantown and Pittsburg Railroad, merged into CSX in 1989.
