This line was built in segments by the Middle Georgia and Atlantic Railway between 1890 and 1895.
Norfolk Southern filed for abandonment of the line in 2013.
There is a segment of the line that is not abandoned. The eastern segment from Eatonton, GA to Machen, Ga was taken up many years ago, including the diamond at Machen where it crossed another CofG line, the ex-Macon & Northern. From Machen west to about a 1/4 mile west of Newborn, the line is still intact, leased to Cater-Parrott Railnet, but out of service. West of Newborn to Covington, the line was pulled up in 2014.
