Leakesville Junction to Hill Top, VA

—  User Comments  —

The section from Leakesville Jct to Hill Top (between Danville and Fieldale) survived as part of the Carolina & North Western (Southern subsidiary) and then as part of NS until the NS abandoned it (not sure when but in the 80s or early 90s).

I am with the Eden Historical Museum and we are trying to do a story on Leaksville Junction and the turntable that was there. We would like to share info. Thanks 336 613 4299

The Danville and Western is still active for 5 miles near Martinsville and Fieldale. The track is a branch line off of the NS Winston Salem District (refered to by the ignorant as the Pumpkin Vine). I think there's only 1 active industry currently. Milepost DW47 to DW42. It is a trail after DW42, but I'm not sure how far the trail goes.

An article was published on August 2014 in a monthly paper known as Eden's Own Journal that covered the Leaksville Junction. This article can be found on the internet in the archives of EOJ. Railroad historian Kenneth Rickman was instrumental in construction of this story. Worth reading.
