The Kearney Spur

Picture Point of Interest

GOOGLE MAPS no longer available: With apologies, I am unable to continue showing Google Maps. Google has forced my hand by increasing their map usage fee from nothing/free to OVER $300 A MONTH for the Abandoned Rails website! This is an expense that I simply cannot afford. Rest assured I am looking at available open source alternatives, so maps should be back online soon!

The railroad bridge over the Platte River is seen here converted to a rail-trail. Photo by James Holtgrewe, May 2012.

This line was built in 1886 by the Republican Valley Railroad and came under the control of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad two years later. It was known as the "Kearney Spur" under CB&Q.

The line was abandoned in 1976 in favor of trackage rights over a nearby parallel Union Pacific line.
