If this is the same branch I'm thinking it is, it used to serve the Esskay meat packing plant on E. Baltimore St. I remember back in the 1970s that Esskay would receive an occasional boxcar. Not sure what it was for...perhaps an empty to ship animal hides out of the plant. That was the only activity I ever saw on the entire branch, so it's not surprising the RR wanted to abandon it not many years later.
