This branch line was built by the El Paso & South Western in 1901 to connect Hermanas (now a ghost town) to Deming, NM. The EP&SW's South Line between Douglas, AZ and El Paso, TX ran through Hermanas, where the line branched off and ran for 31 miles northeast to Deming, where it gained access to the Southern Pacific's "North Line".
Today, the entire route is a road named "Hermanas Grade". It is not known when the railroad right-of-way was officially abandoned or when the tracks were removed.
