This right-of-way was once part of the Hayfield to Mason City Division of the Chicago Great Western Railroad. However, it was abandoned in 1984 under Chicago North Western ownership. Today, a lone signal still stands guard over its crossing with the former Milwaukee Road (Canadian Pacific today) in Austin, MN. View is looking southwest. Photo by Tim Thorp.

I took a hike through the trip weed (not sure what it was but I just about ate a rail about 50 times) was pleasantly surprised to see the rails intact from the junction near the Hormel plant all the way to about 50 feet behind the rails from left to right in the picture. The signal is in poor shape with the glass shot out.

It would be nice if these maps included more towns for better reference, as in Grand Meadow, Spring Valley, Racine etc.
