GOOGLE MAPS no longer available: With apologies, I am unable to continue showing Google Maps. Google has forced my hand by increasing their map usage fee from nothing/free to OVER $300 A MONTH for the Abandoned Rails website! This is an expense that I simply cannot afford. Rest assured I am looking at available open source alternatives, so maps should be back online soon!

This abandoned route once formed part of Baltimore and Ohio's mainline route between Cincinnati, OH and Chicago, IL.

See also North Judson to Amboy and Marion to Richmond.

This was actually the Chesapeake and Ohio's mainline, not the B&O.

This route was abandoned by CSX because the B&O line through Garret offers a superior line. This line was also rebuilt with some high-quality welded rail, so as soon as they were able to get the Cardinal off this line, they shifted the remaining freight to the B&O and salvaged the welded-rail.

Finally, the section from LaCrosse to Malden is still in active use (as is the La Crosse to North Judson section, which is noted) by the Chesapeake and Indiana.
