This segment was part of an Atlantic Coast Line branch from Waterford Junction to Elba, originally built by the Alabama Midland Railroad. It was later operated by the Seaboard Coast Line and the Seaboard System. Its total length was 18.3 miles.
The primary traffic source on this line was Dorsey Trailers, a major supplier of piggyback trailers used on several US railroads. By the early 1980s, Dorsey quit shipping, and the small wood yard operating at Elba moved closer to Enterprise. The last train ran in late 1984. The wood yard ceased operations shortly thereafter, and the tracks were removed.
The remaining segment is operated by the Wiregrass Central Railroad.

The bridge over Pea River in Elba is accessible and makes for great photos. The old wood yard at New Brockton still has rail. Mile markers in New Brockton can still be found.
