Culver Junction to Alla

Point of Interest

GOOGLE MAPS no longer available: With apologies, I am unable to continue showing Google Maps. Google has forced my hand by increasing their map usage fee from nothing/free to OVER $300 A MONTH for the Abandoned Rails website! This is an expense that I simply cannot afford. Rest assured I am looking at available open source alternatives, so maps should be back online soon!

Historic ICC Abandonment Filings

Docket Number: AB 12 Sub 48 Date: 10/19/1976 Section: 1a
Application filed for authority to abandon a line extending from MP 494.249 near Culver Junction to MP 498.017 near Alla on the Alla Branch and MP 498.112 to MP 502.200 near Inglewood on the Inglewood Branch a distance of 8.571 miles in Los Angeles. Calif. (This line includes the stations of Culver Junction, Alla, Mesmer and Inglewood.)
Length: 8.571 miles Citation:
Also under this filing: The Inglewood Branch

I remember watching the SP local running on this line with SW1500,Alco S-6 and misc. other switchers. The tracks actually went beyond Alla Road and terminated east of SR-1 Lincoln Blvd. There was a cross over diamond and a wye at the end of the line for the trains to back on to the Santa Monica/Inglewood line. A portion of the line between Braddock Drive and Elenda Ave. is now a bike path and pedestrian walkway. The west end is occupied by a self storage center and the SR-90 Marina Freeway. The east end is occupied by homes and Sony Studios. The old SP depot in Culver City has been converted into a performing arts center.
