I have lived in the Wyncote are for the past 3 years while I attend college, In the mean time i did a lot of research on abandon railroad in the area. First you can still see the evidence of the Wye connecting at Ft Hill. There are some rails and ties still in place, Rt 309 take place of the ROW. The Row is visible after the Willow Grove Ave new bridge, Penn Dot remove the bridge on Stenton ave and use fill to fill it in, There is a 2 track bridge over Germantown ave, The Row also goes under the stone RDG line (Septa) bridge where it laters connect with PPENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD.
i was looking at the map and noticed a bridge and possible rail.please let me know if the bridge and rail still exist.
The bridge over Germantown Ave. still exists although the tracks are gone. There's a clear view of the former roadbed in a cut that can be seen from the Willow Grove Ave. bridge above 309. This line was about as minor a branch as the PRR had, although it was electrified. Passenger service ended in 1953 I believe and freight service cut back to Cheltenham Ave. a couple years later. All service ended in the late 1970s or early 80s.
Do you have any pictures or information about The Fort Washington Branch? Please
