Bridgehampton to Sag Harbor

Picture Point of Interest

GOOGLE MAPS no longer available: With apologies, I am unable to continue showing Google Maps. Google has forced my hand by increasing their map usage fee from nothing/free to OVER $300 A MONTH for the Abandoned Rails website! This is an expense that I simply cannot afford. Rest assured I am looking at available open source alternatives, so maps should be back online soon!

Some old rail still in place on the Sag Harbor in Bridgehampton. Photo by Walter Imhof, July 2016.

This portion actually belonged to the Manorville to Eastport abandonment. LIRR originally only ran to Sag Harbor as it was, at the time, a major port. Austin Corbin had the idea of running trains out to Montauk in order to cut a day or so off of the travel time by boat to Europe. He had intended to build a deep water port in Montauk. But it never came to be. Instead, it turned into a tourist destination.
