The B&ML is not totally abandoned. Only the final mile in the city of Belfast ME has been removed. There continue to be tourist operations on other portions of the line. (2010)

I work on the BML summers doing track work. Most of the line is at class 2 and some at class 1. The section of track within Belfast, Maine (about MP3) east of City Point into downtown Belfast (MP0) is being turned into a railtrail. From City Point west to Burnham Jct is open line and operable. Summer passenger service is operated over various portions of the line on weekends.
