Bedford to Seymour
This line was once part of the Milwaukee Road's only mainline that ran eastward from Chicago (all others extended westward) to Westport, IN (see also Westport to Seymour), the eastern terminus, where it connected with the New York Central. The line intersected the Monon's line in Bedford.
The trackage was cut back to Seymour from Westport in 1961; while the portion between Bedford and Seymour was abandoned in 1978.
See also the History of the Milwaukee Road in Southern Indiana.
Indiana Railroad has filed for abandonment of this line from Bedford West to at least Crane. This is due to CSX taking their ex Monon "Hoosier Sub" line from Bedford down to Mitchell "out of service". Rumors of abandonment are circling for that line as well.
Well last year the Crane to Bedford track was taken up.
