this was part of the Milwaukee Lakeshore and western. All the tracks from Ashland to New London was abandoned by the early 80's
About 1875 Chicago and Northwestern Railroad ran from Eland through Antigo, Monico, Rhinelander Lake Tomahawk, Mercer, Ironwood, to Ashland. Passenger service ended 1973 when Amtrak was formed. C&NY had several ore docks at Ashland. All the docks are gone now. C&NW had line running east from Ironwood to Escanaba Michigan, with Connections to the C&NY line from Monico through three Lakes, WI, Eagle River, Land Of Lakes to Watersmeet Michigan. Thes lines featured Flambeau 400. Wisconsin Lake Special and others. everything gone 1970s and 80s.
I'm a native of Chicago, now living in Minnesota. I spent
several vacations in Elcho, Wi., through which this line
ran. I often rode the Flambeau 400 to not only Elcho but also
to Woodruff to go to summer camp. The Flambeau stopped
running at the start of Amtrak and the line carried freight
until its abandonment in the early 1980's. I have visited the area several times since. Pictures are available.
Mr Keller PLEASE get those photo's to the web master so he can post them. I would really like to see them.

Am interested in the route of the FLAMBEAU "400" north of Green Bay. Have collected vintage photos of some of the depots and trains along the line. Additionally, have modern-day pix of Anitgo, Shawno and Rhinelander. Understand depot remains standing at Eland and that there is now a steam locomotive (NOT at C&NW loco) on display in Antigo. Hope to see some of this line in a trip to Rhinelander in May 2016.
Have done presentations on this line for railfan/historical groups. Any pix (preferably B&W) which I might obtain would help to illustrate this all-but-forgotten line.
