(Forwarded from the Arlington & Fairfax Electric Railroad)
Built in the late 1800s, this line ran between Vienna and Fairfax, VA, and connected with the Washington & Old Dominion at Vienna. It was abandoned in 1939. Here, the former right-of-way can be seen facing northeast from the end of Library Lane, near the corner of Maple Avenue (VA Route 123) and Nutley Street (VA Route 243) in Vienna, VA. Mike, I own land on Center St where the trolley ran down.
Fairfax City, VA
I worked in an office building in Vienna that backed up to the bicycle path on the old W&OD RR R/O/W. There were a pair of bridge abutments on either side of the bike path that appeared to have supported a narrow bridge over the railroad. I believe this may have been an overpass for the trolley line.
