Amboy to Lee Center

Map submitted by Lee M.

GOOGLE MAPS no longer available: With apologies, I am unable to continue showing Google Maps. Google has forced my hand by increasing their map usage fee from nothing/free to OVER $300 A MONTH for the Abandoned Rails website! This is an expense that I simply cannot afford. Rest assured I am looking at available open source alternatives, so maps should be back online soon!

This line was the Lee County Central Electric. That was an early interurban line that was abandoned in the 1920's. There is a description in John Due's book on Interurbans. This line was later used for grain shipments and abandoned in the 1970's (?)

Incorporated, IIRC, as the Northeastern Illinois Electric Ry. Originally used steam for freight. The line continued a mile or two further, to another elevator; Clayton Rd. on the map looks to be part of the ROW. The line to Lee Center was still serviceable when I stopped by in '73 or '74.
