i am looking at this rail line and the map shows abandoned rail.is this true?the rail supposedly crosses kiley road.any information would be greatlty appreciated.
We've got the beginning of a GREAT rail-trail established on this line now, George! Check out my report on Phase I of the "Little Crabtree Creek Trail" on TrailLink.com. 1.2 miles of trail is completed from Twin Lakes Park down to Luxor Road. Westmoreland County Parks has purchased and owns the right-0f-way up to Crabtree, where Phase II of the trail is to be established later on. In the meantime, our county has purchased the old Turtle Creek Industrial RR, and will be ripping up the old PRR track from Export to Trafford, to extend and complete the neat Westmoreland Heritage Trail westward before they continue working on the Little Crabtree Creek Trail extension. Unfortunately, Park Director Malcolm Sias indicated to me that there is currently no movement toward extending the trail north from Crabtree to either Hannastown or New Alexandria. That's a shame. The whole line is a very scenic right-of-way. Nevertheless, I am quite excited about the Luxor Road-Crabtree extension. It runs two miles up a bucolic, scenic little farm valley.
Trying to find out if Penna RailRoad bought that right of way or if the rail had a property owner agreement when it was put in ? Should say somewhere just haven't found it.Liking the rails to trails program. Just wants to know how they did things back then. Thanks
The Donahoe Tunnel was on the old Pennsylvania Railroad Mainline, it is located just east of Donahoe. The tunnel was bypassed when the mainline was rebuilt.
The Alexandria Branch map is missing the line to Huron mine & Coke Works, located north of Rt 22, at Salemville.
Ray,where exactly is the Huron Mine & Coke Works located on the map?I don't see it.
George, email me at email@example.com and I will give you that information. I can't add to this map.
Ray,i e-mailed you yesterday.Did you get the e-mail?
